Christian Krischkowsky Quartet

The CHRISTIAN KRISCHKOWSKY QUARTET combines the appeal of unique, creative ideas with a positive band spirit. The music flows, everything feels completely natural, and the quartet led by Ulm-based drummer Christian Krischkowsky and his musically distinctive Berlin-based teammates Peter Ehwald (sax), Marc Schmolling (piano), and Roland Fidezius (bass) moves effortlessly between composition and improvisation, between jazz tradition and modernity. Expressive melodies move over contemporary, partly hip-hop-inspired rhythmic structures, but edgy swinging influences such as those of Thelonious Monk can also be heard. Even though the drummer's sometimes unconventional, imaginative compositions and arrangements are challenging in various ways, they never seem contrived. On the contrary, many of them have a strong atmospheric power. There are lyrical moments and playful ones. With captivating dramaturgy and dynamics, the material is explored in an open collaboration. After the two albums “DIGITAL IMMIGRANT” (nominated for the German Record Critics' Award) and “THE END OF MELANCHOLISM,” the four musicians have grown even closer together musically and matured. With “DISCOVERY OF LIGHTNESS” (Doubelmoon/Challenge International), they now present their current third album with exciting new music.
